A necessary human condition seems to be an aspiration to greatness. We're all affected by it, in action sometimes but without fail, in imagination. Quite often, that's a load of crock. Maybe more than quite often.
Take a look at the world around us...just being normal is pretty darn difficult. Assume you're a college student in some random country. Either you're working two jobs, if you're lucky, while supporting parents or siblings and trying not to get caught up in whatever political or cultural turmoil your city is in. Or you're a mom somewhere in the EU. Now you're trying to raise a couple of kids while dealing with a husband in an economy that cannot decide whether to become common across nations or not. Or you're a baby boomer in the US, where your health costs are rising, your kids probably visit once a year and you may have to go back to work. Most other places on this planet are worse. And outer space is inhabitable...see where I'm going with this.
In all this, if you keep your head, manage to live within your means, raise your kids with some sense of good and honesty, keep focused on your goal of staying in college, take your meds and stay somewhat healthy...heck, that's practically superhuman. This should be celebrated. But since the only one who knows the effort it takes to just be normal is you, you're shit outta luck becoming famous. Everyone else is doing the same thing as you; we are all celebrities in our own lives.
Silent celebrities of our own lives. It's a worthy goal. Each day was well spent, if you kept things going, stayed level or managed a small improvement. Don't go to bed stressed over what was not. Go to bed content that you did another day where you fulfilled the promise of being normal. That's pretty rare. Not the being normal part...but the being content part.
And no, all this doesn't mean you shouldn't try to do great things. It just means that if you walk the walk of your life in a steady manner, normal will become easy, not hard. You'll think of normal as...well, normal. And now, you may begin to do great things. By being normal, you get out of your own way. So aspire to normalcy, and you increase the chances of doing something great.
